I have served in the MICY (Now known as STAR Youth) since 1985, when it started its very first ministry the Social Club. As a retired teacher, God has helped me make my training as a teacher to good use in this area of serving.
I enjoy myself and feel young again at the Social Club with all the singing, dancing and activities organized by the helpers. I have also picked up a lot of cooking tips during the cookery sessions.
I thank God that the leaders of CES had a bigger vision for the clients than just letting them come to Dream Centre for socializing although that is very important for them. By starting the Day Training Centre in 1999, the Job Training Centre and Livingskills Training Centre, our clients are given opportunities to release their fullest potential.
I am indeed blessed to be chosen as one of his many servants in this area. It is very fulfilling for me to see them through the seasons in their life – to grow and mature from youth to young adults and to see them picking up new skills and some of them working in open employment.
Serving in this ministry has also expanded my friendship with other church members. As we serve together, we have drawn closer to each other, caring, supporting and praying for each other.
Although my health has not been good the past few years, I had continued to serve whenever I have the strength. There are days when I feel tired and unwell to serve but once I step into the classroom and interact with the clients and helpers, my tiredness disappear and I immediately get into the thick of things.
Because of this I am confident that God will sustain me with His strength and power as He uses me to meet the needs of these children.
I encourage those who have the time to come and join us. You will be greatly blessed as you bless these special children.
A willing heart, a love for them and prayers are all tools we require to help in this ministry.
“ See a hurt, heal it, see a need, meet it.”
Thank you Father God for sustaining me through the years of serving in this ministry. All honour and glory to the Almighty God.
